Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar felt that education is an elixir to liberate people from the age old slavery and he wanted the people to be educated, ethically sound and full of compassion for those who suffered a lot. With this belief he established People’s Education Society at Mumbai in the year 1945.

The objective of People’s Education Society is explicitly stated in the following words “The People’s Education society’s objective is not merely to give education but to give education in such a manner as to promote intellectual, moral and social democracy. This is what modern India needs and this is what well wishers of India must promote”.

Siddharth College was the first educational institution started in 1946 at Bombay by People’s Education Society which soon enjoyed a place of pride in Bombay University.

Marathwada region was then ruled by the Nizams. There was no progress and upliftment of the downtrodden community of this region.  Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar visited the world heritage sites of Ajanta and Ellora, during this visit when, he realized that there should be an educational institution in Aurangabad. He had a vision that without education this region won’t progress socially, economically and culturally. Therefore in 1950 he decided to establish     “Milind Mahavidyalaya” in Aurangabad. The foundation stone of Milind Mahavidyalaya was laid down by the First President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 1^st Sept 1951. Flocks of students from all over Maharashtra rushed to take education in Milind Mahavidyalaya. To streamline their academic and administrative ways    Milind Mahavidyalaya was bifurcated as Milind college of Arts and Milind College of Science in 1963.

The heritage building of Milind Mahavidyalaya has huge classrooms, spacious and well ventilated laboratories. Further, it provides various facilities such as well equipped sports complex, Gymnasium Hall, Subhedar Ramji Ambedkar Auditorium for cultural activities, Ajantha Boys Hostel, Pradnya girls Hostel to provide accommodation for boys and girls. The library of the college has a rich collection of books referred and written by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar along with historical, religious and regular academic text as well as reference books. The college also pays equal attention on curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities through ‘N.S.S.’, ‘N.C.C.’ ‘Earn and Learn’ and ‘Adult and Continuing Education’ programs offered by the university along with substantial emphasis on sports and cultural activities.
